About Us

Vale Street Centre is a drop-in centre for people living with, or recovering from, a mental illness. The centre is located in Katoomba, in the beautiful Blue Mountains about 100km west of Sydney.

What does Vale Street Centre offer?

Vale Street Centre offers a range of activities including pottery, cooking, creative writing, art, games, music, DVDs, crafts, outings, health/exercise, computer skills and much more.

Vale Street Centre also provides FREE broadband internet access, pool table, tea and coffee, kitchen, bathrooms, shower and chill out room.

Vale Street Centre is a project of Katoomba Neighbourhood Centre, Inc.

Vale Street Centre provides a fresh start for people living with or recovering from a mental illness.

Our activities support and encourage participants to enjoy themselves, and interaction, creativity, self-expression and hope are fostered by everyone involved.

Who can attend Vale Street Centre?

Vale Street Centre is open to people in the Blue Mountains aged over 16 years, living with or recovering from a mental illness.

What does it cost?

At Vale Street Centre there is usually NO COST for activities. Occasionally there may be some small costs to cover tea, coffee and lunches. Cost of outings can vary and is dependent on the destination, but every effort is made to keep these costs to a minimum.

How do we work together?

Safety is an integral part of Vale Street Centre and we all work together to ensure a healthy and safe environment for everyone to enjoy.

We aim to meet the needs of everyone involved, but we do encourage all participants to independently monitor their own physical and mental health. Our staff are not mental health workers, however we do work to facilitate programs and activities to encourage and promote recovery.

How do you get here?

Vale Street Centre has a bus service that picks up and drops off at Katoomba train station. To find out more information or organise times with staff, please phone (02) 4782 1286.
